AICP Opening Title Sequence

Title sequences for awards shows are always ripe with possibility… we often use them as a forum for creative inspiration. I think we broke the mold on this one. After a quote by Marcus Aurelius, we are introduced to various closeups of human anatomy. Correction: mythical anatomy. The body parts we see are none other than that of the great Zeus, rendered in CG. Our team at ATK PLN created the CG bits, and I added all of the type, which was designed to showcase the sponsors for the awards show. I extruded them in 3D and animated them...

AT&T “Edge To Edge” Spots

AT&T “Edge To Edge” Spots

Live action talent and set pieces are combined with 3d and 2d graphics to create spots that show AT&T’s breadth across several different industries. Everything was designed as one straightforward camera move that pushes through various walls as they reveal the next wall… but the actual execution to pull this off was anything but simple. We captured the camera moves and choreographed the talent performances, which gave us a base to work with. Then we did a rough edit of all the shots to nail down the timing. Once the shots and...

Slack “What Is Slack” :30 Commercial

In this colorful spot, we follow a person as she uses Slack to coordinate different teams, represented by 4 different rooms. The rooms were all carefully coordinated with color-coded props and wardrobe to match Slack’s brand colors. The lady and her desk were on a dolly track along with the camera, allowing us to stay focused on her in frame while behind her the different rooms were sliding past. I was on set to supervise the VFX of the shoot, and while finishing the spot were some little fixes I had to do, like lock down the coffee cup...

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle / Movie Activation CG Shorts

The studio that made this movie asked us to generate a handful of shorts as part of an onsite activation. The different shorts are accessed via an interactive front-end experience, all taken from characters in the film. In addition to being used for the activation, we needed to extract vertical, square, and 4×3 versions for social media posts, so we had to make them very high resolution to get the fidelity necessary to do all the cropping. These were a lot of fun to do, and I composited all the CG layers and did a number of fixes in...

Exxon Mobil-1 360 Video

In this 360 degree spherical video, the viewer is taken on a journey through an engine, giving a close up look at how the engine runs both before and after Mobil-1 oil is added. I composited and combined all the different chunks of the video, some of which were rendered in spherical 3D and other stuff which was live action comped. I had to do special transitions in order to make the journey between each piece seamless. I also enhanced the color and the look of the new Mobil-1 oil as it flows into the engine. Finally, I put together the...

Fox Racing Vue Goggles

After BMX pro Ken Roczen suffered a potentially career-ending injury, his comeback was a story of inspiration and toughness. We helped Fox tell this story with a minimalistic spot that features Ken sitting on his bike on a black background. As pieces of the Fox Vue goggles animate in slow motion, video footage of his comeback plays on the visor. The pieces combine and assemble in a heroic shot that shows Ken is ready to ride. We shot live action plates of Ken, and used real goggles to model and animate the goggle pieces in 3D. They were lit...

Circue Du Soleil and SAP “Toruk” 360

In this piece, we were hired by Momentum for client SAP and Cirque du Soleil to deliver a 360 virtual reality piece that showcases how SAP’s data collection and app enhance the live Cirque experience. We did this through live action footage combined with graphical overlays, all done in 360 VR. We collected live camera data from the Toruk show using our 360 camera rigs, and then edited the footage together. After editing, it was necessary to stitch the footage due to the seams caused by shooting multiple cameras in a 360 degree array. An...

SAP Extreme Sailing 360

Momentum Wordwide asked us to create a VR piece to showcase the way SAP interacts with sailing teams to deliver realtime data. We shot a real live sailing even on-location in Muscat, and then created graphic overlays that matched the footage. These overlays showed how various aspects of the sailing competition were monitored and displayed to help the SAP sailing team evaluate the various aspects of weather, water, and the sailing yacht itself. The narrative takes you through the entire race, from the very beginning when the team looks at data...

Wilsonart VR Experience

In this first-ever 360 virtual reality project for Wilsonart, we were tasked with developing a VR piece that resellers could experience while learning about the new Wilsonart design app. We begin in a trendy loft with a spokesperson standing by a Wilsonart design board. She talks about the Wilsonart design app and how it helps you choose the best materials for your client projects. Then the design board opens and we go “through the rabbit hole” to experience several virtual experiences including skydiving, a zipline, and a hot-air...

AT&T Flexware “Enterprise”

For our second AT&T Flexware “Enterprise” spot, we used what we learned on the “Small Business” one to take it to the next level. This time we zoom into the router adorned with world monuments. We also had CG water in this one and a well-thought out matte painting with a beautiful sky in the background, which provided a great backdrop for our router bookends at the beginning and end of the spot. As we zoom back we are treated to a graphical representation of the earth connected with data, which ends up being on a...
